Are You Prepared for This Winter's Cold Weather?

As winter continues it is often forecast to bring freezing temperatures, snowfall and strong winds across many parts of the UK. Conditions like these can increase the risk of damage to homes and vehicles, particularly where snow and ice are able to build up.

We want to help you prepare as much as possible and minimise any disruption. There are a few simple, practical steps you can take over the winter to reduce risk and protect your car and property.

To make things easier, we’ve put together some clear guidance and useful reminders that you can refer to. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Protect your home in freezing weather

  • Ensure all outside taps are isolated from the main water supply
  • Lag pipes and water tanks to help prevent freezing
  • Keep heating on low during cold spells, even when away
  • Know where your stop tap is, just in case a pipe bursts

Reduce the risk of damage to your car

  • Use winter-grade screenwash and check antifreeze levels
  • Ensure tyres are properly inflated and have adequate tread
  • Clear snow and ice fully from windows, mirrors and lights before setting off
  • Do not use boiling water to clear ice from your glass, this can cause it to crack

🌨️ Keep an eye on the weather and most importantly stay safe 🌨️
