Travel Insurance FAQs

WHAT IS TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Travel insurance is a type of insurance that covers you for costs associated with travelling. If you are going on a holiday it is recommended to get travel insurance to protect your trip from unexpected medical expenses, trip cancellations, lost luggage and other losses incurred whilst travelling. If you take out travel insurance, it is always important to read your policy documents to know exactly what your trip is covered for.

WHY DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Travel insurance is an essential part of your trip but it is not required by law. Without travel insurance you could find yourself in a difficult situation if you are faced with medical bills for treatment that you had not anticipated, which can escalate to thousands. It will also cover you for unexpected incidents such as cancellation, loss of passport, delayed or missed departure to name a few. Some tour operators will insist that you have insurance in place, for example, before you can board a cruise ship.

CAN I GET COVER FOR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS HORSE RIDING, SKIING OR WATER SPORTS?

Yes, we can provide cover for adventure sports and winter sports. You will have the option to choose what activities you are likely to do whilst on your holiday or travelling and that you would require cover for.

WHEN SHOULD I PURCHASE MY TRAVEL INSURANCE?

We would recommend arranging your travel insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday so that you have cancellation cover in place. Please note that on single trip policies your cancellation cover will start as soon as you buy your policy and on annual policies cover starts from the start date of the policy.

WHAT IF I AM TRAVELLING TO MORE THAN ONE COUNTRY?

That is absolutely fine, we can list all the countries that you are visiting on your trip.

DO YOU COVER CLAIMS RELATING TO COVID 19?

Yes cover is available for COVID 19 - Specific details of cover varies with each insurance provider. The COVID 19 documents for each provider will be displayed once you receive your quotes.

CAN I INSURE WHEN I AM ALREADY ON HOLIDAY?

Trips need to start and end in the UK so we are unable to provide cover once your holiday has started.

WILL MY POLICY COVER A CRUISE?

Yes, you are able to select the option to include cruise cover with our panel of providers.

CAN MY FAMILY TRAVEL INDEPENDENTLY ON AN ANNUAL TRAVEL POLICY?

Yes, if you are named on an annual policy, you can travel together or independently.

WHAT IF I HAVE A EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD OR A GLOBAL TRAVEL INSURANCE CARD?

Travel Insurance will cover other medical related costs that the EHIC will not, such as the cost of assistance to get home.

DO I NEED TO GET TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR A TRIP IN THE UK?

You don’t need UK travel insurance for medical cover, but it could compensate you for other unexpected problems with your trip including cancellation and curtailment.

DO YOU HAVE AGE LIMITS?

No, policies are available without age restrictions, although the number of quotes we can offer may be limited and on some occasions we may only have the option for single trip policies as opposed to annual trip cover.

WILL TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER MY PASSPORT?

Most travel insurance policies will cover the cost of a lost or stolen passport, should you need to cover the cost of replacement.

CAN I EXTEND THE LIMITS OF MY TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER?

You can select the levels of your travel insurance cover once the quote is generated, so if the best priced policy doesn’t have enough cancellation cover, for example, you can move to the next provider on the panel.

WHAT IS THE MOST DAYS I CAN TRAVEL FOR?

You can select the maximum number of days you are looking to travel for on the drop down options available so that the quote generated will suit your needs.

CAN I GET TRAVEL INSURANCE IF I HAVE MEDICAL CONDITIONS?

Yes as long as they are declared at inception, and we are informed of any changes in circumstances before you travel. If our panel cannot offer cover, you will be given an alternative number for assistance. In some cases, an annual cover may not be available, but we can look to offer single trip travel. We will always do the best we can to get a quote for you that meets your needs.

HOW DO I MAKE A CLAIM ON MY INSURANCE?

Please refer to the policy wording that is issued with your documents. This will provide you with the claims numbers that you will need in the event that you do need to claim.

DO I HAVE A COOLING OFF PERIOD?

We offer a 14 day cooling off period. If you choose to cancel your travel insurance policy within the first 14 days you will receive a full refund as long as cover has not be used.

WHAT IS AN EXCESS?

An excess is the amount you will need to pay towards a claim. Your excess can be found at the quote results stage, alternatively your excess amount will be clearly stated within your unique policy documents.

DO I NEED A EUROPEAN POLICY IF I AM TRAVELING TO THE CHANNEL ISLANDS?

Yes, in the event that you needed to be repatriated, costs can be incurred from things such as needing a ferry ticket to the hire of a private air ambulance.
