Car Insurance FAQs

DO I STILL NEED A PHYSICAL COPY OF MY CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE?

No, while supplying a copy of your certificate of motor insurance was a requirement years ago, now you can tax your vehicle online or over the phone without the need for a physical copy.  It is also not a legal requirement to have this document in your car.  Most checks will be carried out electronically

WHY HAS MY CAR INSURANCE PREMIUMS INCREASED?

Car insurance premiums have increased due to a number of factors, namely, inflation, changes to regulation and the rising cost of car repairs and car parts.  The cost of personal injury claims has also increased which further pushes up the costs. For further details please see our recent news story

DOES MILEAGE AFFECT THE PREMIUM?

Mileage is a consideration when deciding how much of a risk you are to insure.  It is important to ensure that you have included enough mileage allowance, but also, not to overestimate this.  At certain points the prices can rise or reduce, so it is important to review this if your circumstances change.

DOES THE VALUE OF MY CAR AFFECT THE PREMIUM?

As a rule of thumb, the higher the value of the car, the more expensive car insurance may be.  The higher the car value, usually the more expensive costs for repairs and parts will be. The rating impact will vary from insurer to insurer, so please ensure that you keep this up to date when reviewing your renewal or making changes to cover.

IF I BREAKDOWN WILL THEY TAKE ME HOME?

This can depend on the policy that you opted for, and also if you have chosen to include any additional add-ons.  The best thing to do is to check your car insurance documents, or just call us on 01622 766960 option 3 to clarify.

CAN I REMOVE FOREIGN USE AS I DON'T DRIVE ABROAD?

This is included as standard with most of our insurance policies.  If you have the cover (please check your policy documents) you will not be paying any extra for this, and it is not something that can be removed.

WILL I GET A COURTESY CAR IF I HAVE AN ACCIDENT?

This will depend on your insurance provider or may be something that you have opted to add-on to the primary policy, so it is always best to check your policy documents or give us a call for clarification.  If this is not included, then we can discuss options to add this to your policy so just call us on 01622 766960
option 3.

DO I HAVE COVER FOR BUSINESS USE?

You need to inform us if you use your vehicle for business use or select the option to include this in your quotation. If you simply drive to one permanent place of work, this is classed as commuting, but if you are driving to different sites/meetings you will need to extend your insurance to include the correct level of cover.

CAN I DRIVE ANY CAR WITH MY POLICY?

Most of our policies will cover you to drive another car if you’re over the age of 25 years old, are the policyholder (and not a named driver, and do not work in the motor trade). Cover will usually be restricted to Third Party, and you will need to ensure the car that you will be borrowing is covered in its own right and you have the owner’s permission. However, always check your certificate of insurance or call us on 01622 766960 option 3  for clarification.

WHAT DOES NO CLAIMS BONUS PROTECTION COVER?

No Claims Bonus Protection does not protect the price of your policy following a claim but it does protect the amount of years that you have built up. It will allow you to have a certain amount of claims in a period of time before the no claims bonus is affected.

ARE YOU ABLE TO ADD A TEMPORARY DRIVER TO YOUR POLICY?

Yes, in most cases you are able to add a temporary driver to your policy.  Please give us a call on 01622 766960 and select option 3 for Customer Services and we will be happy to assist.  Alternatively, in association with Go Shorty, CSIS can introduce affordable Short Term Car Insurance Cover starting from 1 hour to 28 days.
