CSIS Announces New Chief Executive Appointment

Date
May 2020

The Board of the Civil Service Insurance Society (CSIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Wendy Hilder, FCII, MBA, Chartered Insurer as the new Chief Executive.  Her most recent job has been Head of Underwriting Operations and Capacity Management at Markerstudy Group, where she has been for 14 years.  Prior to that she held senior positions at Link Underwriting Agency.   She is a very experienced insurance executive with broad-ranging skills in underwriting and management and the Board is excited to have been able to appoint her to the Chief Executive post.

Kevin Holliday has been the Chief Executive of CSIS since the end of 2005, during which time he has very successfully grown an insurance intermediary business for current and former public servants, with a turnover of close to £9 million a year, which donates all of its profits to charity.  At the same time as providing excellent service and very good value and highly trusted insurance to current and former public servants, over the last decade CSIS has donated £400,000 in Corporate Social Responsibility grants to more than 40 local Kent charities and has covenanted the whole of the balance of its surplus (£7.5 million over the last decade) to the CSIS Charity Fund, which has in turn donated £8.6 million to more than 100 different charitable organisations supporting civil and public servants in every corner of the UK.  In addition, grants out of the Society’s marketing budget have provided catalytic assistance to other charities to enable them to significantly increase their fund-raising potential.

Under Kevin’s leadership CSIS has won numerous awards, including in 2019 being voted the Most Trusted Home Insurance Provider, Most Trusted Motor Insurance Provider and Most Trusted Travel Insurance Provider at the annual Moneywise awards ceremony.  In 2019 CSIS also held its position in first place in the fairness league as a Gold Ribbon Insurance Provider by Fairer Finance (the online financial services consumer champion).

In spite of the present time of extraordinary dislocation, the business of CSIS has continued uninterrupted, with all staff currently working from home.  Devotion to serving the needs of customers has been even more important to maintain in these challenging times.

Subject to working within the government’s lockdown recommendations, it is expected that Wendy will take up the position of Chief Executive on 8 June, with Kevin providing continuity by overlapping with Wendy until 30 June, after which he will be available on a consultancy basis up to the end of August.  Kevin will continue his association with CSIS in the future as Secretary to the CSIS Charity Fund Trustees.
